10 STEPS TO REDUCE RISK BREAST CANCER

Prevention of Breast cancer starts with healthy habits — such as limiting alcohol and staying physically active.  You can do a lot to reduce your breast cancer risk.

Prevention of Breast cancer risks

Changes in Lifestyle have been shown in studies to decrease breast cancer risk even in high-risk women. Some risk factors, such as family history, can’t be changed. However, there are lifestyle changes you can make to lower your risk.

  1. Control your weight-especially after menopause.
  2. Physically active –this reduces the risk of breast cancer directly as well as indirectly by controlling your weight..
  3. Breastfeeding is a must & the longer one continues higher protection is conferred upon
  4. Quit smoking today.-it is much more dangerous in premenopausal women.
  5. Limit alcohol.
  6. HRT should be for the limited duration.
  7. Avoid pollution at all cost
  8. Be aware of radiation hazards…..too many x-rays, CAT scan etc.
  9. Healthy diet is the key to prevention from multiple diseases-cardiac, diabetes, cancer
  10. Older birth control pills(<1985) were implicated in breast cancer progression, however, newer generation pills are said to be completely safe.

Lastly one always take part in breast cancer detection programmes.
