Kidney stones also can be one of the reasons for blood in urine. If infection is present in the urinary tract along with the stones, there may be fever and chills to highlight the disease further. Sometimes, symptoms such as difficulty urinating, incontinence, penile pain or testicular pain may occur due to kidney stones. A stone may cause pain if it becomes stuck and blocks the flow of urine. Pain can occur in the flank (the side, between the ribs and the hip) or the lower abdomen and the pain can move toward the groin.
Most people with kidney stones will have blood in the urine (hematuria). Seeing blood in your urine can be alarming. While in many instances the cause is harmless, blood in urine (hematuria) can indicate a serious disorder.
Urinary blood that’s visible only under a microscope (microscopic hematuria) is found when your doctor tests your urine. Either way, it’s important to determine the reason for the bleeding. Kidney stones also characteristically cause bloody urine.
