Can you give blood after getting a tattoo?

Blood donation is a life saving noble cause which helps in treating multiple health problems. A person who gives blood during the time of emergency are applauded for their selfless act. 1 person donating blood can save the lives of 3 people.

But there may be conditions where in you will be denied of a chance  to donate blood even to their own family members during the time of emergencies and the reasons can be alarming. One of the reasons behind this can be their new tattoo on the body.

The reason for this denial is a precaution against cross contamination & diseases such as hepatitis, HIV etc. For this reason behind, blood banks suggest waiting for  6 to 12 months to allow the tattoo’s design to properly heal. It is always important to find out that the artist uses sealed needles before getting any work done mainly to ignore blood borne diseases which may spread by needles.

The blood donated by such people carries the risk of being infection & other diseases like hepatitis B, hepatitis C and in rare cases HIV. Researchers  have revealed that there are 10 to 30 %  chances of transfusion of hepatitis B virus infection through infected needles. And in several of the blood banks, a tattoo is acceptable in blood donation if it was applied by a state regulated or from licensed tattoo shop using sterile needles and ink that is not save. Several people are  doubtful about getting a tattoo, you can’t donate blood for lifetime which is not correct.

Any donor, who is healthy, fit and not suffering from any communicable diseases can donate blood on continuous basis.
