Early signs of Autism Spectrum Disorder

Early signs of autism spectrum disorder are usually seen in the first two years post birth.Some children have many of these early warning signs, whereas others might have only a few. Some behavioural signs can change over time, or become clearer as children get older. Also, any loss of social or language skills during this period is cause for concern.

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability caused by differences in the brain. Some people with ASD have a known difference, such as a genetic condition. There are multiple causes of ASD. A diagnosis of ASD now includes several conditions that used to be diagnosed separately:

Some children with an ASD seem to develop normally around 18 to 24 months of age and then they stop gaining new skills, or they lose the skills they once had.

Symptoms associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder:

  • Very Active
  •  Acting without thinking
  • Short attention span
  • Aggressive
  • Causing self-injury
  • Unusual eating  too much and sleeping habits
  • Unusual mood or emotional reactions
  • Lack of fear or more fear than expected
  • Patients with the autism spectrum disorder have unusual responses to touch, smell, sounds, sights, and taste, and feel
  • Some autism spectrum disorder patients with an ASD limit their diet to only a few foods
  • Patients with ASD might have odd sleeping habits. They also might have abnormal moods or emotional reactions. For instance, they might laugh or cry at unusual times or show no emotional response at times you would expect one
