Recovering from c-section surgeries requires patience, time, and taking good care of yourself. Eat well, hydrate, and other healthy habits are important and should be inculcated in your everyday routine.  Following are the natural remedies to recover from a c-section.

  • Drink water: It is important to stay hydrated after your procedure. After a c-section, many women experience constipation, which can be unpleasant and painful. Be sure to drink plenty of filtered water to keep your body balanced. Moreover, lactating mothers need plenty of fluids.
  • Eat well: Post-operative nutrition can affect the speed of the healing process. Make sure you eat a balanced diet with protein, fruits, and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and legumes. Anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, berries, dark leafy vegetables, fish, and more can aid in healing as well.
  • Take probiotics: To prevent infection, you will be given antibiotics, But antibiotic use can be detrimental, as they can get rid of beneficial bacteria that your body needs. To combat the negative effects of antibiotics, take a probiotic as well, which can restore a healthy balance of bacteria in your body.
  • Get enough rest: Your body needs sleep and rest to heal properly. Life with a new baby will be hectic and difficult, but try to find the time to let yourself sleep because it is essential for you to recover fully and be able to enjoy the time with your newborn.
  • Give yourself a message: A mainstay in midwifery, massages is used to prevent and reduce the appearance of c-section scars. They increase circulation, bringing fresh blood and nutrients to the suture site. They may also encourage skin regeneration and break up scar tissue. Gentle massage the suture site with or without oil for 5-10 mins each day.
  • Turn up the heat: Pain is an after effect of c-section. There’s no getting around it, but hot fomentation is one sure way to ease it. Heat will relax your muscles, increase blood flow to the area and will dampen the pain signal. You can apply heat with a hot water bottle, heating pad, or by taking a soak in a warm herbal bath.
  • Opt for Breastfeeding: Mothers should continue breastfeeding as it helps in preventing breast abscess of mastitis. Moreover, breast milk is beneficial to the baby also.
