Menopause and Anxiety: The Connection

In today’s world of stress and adversities, life has become much more monotonous. From time to time, women have to go through hormonal changes, infertility and much more things which are surely not a good thing. These factors have a connection with menopause which can further contribute to stress, mood swings and a decrease in well-being.

For women, menopause can be a situation of much-prolonged anxiety and stress, all at the same time. It occurs when the periods are finished for 12 months. Now, the symptoms of premature menopause may occur in Menopause but it is seen less often.

On the basis of studies, a large number of women suffer from Anxiety during their Perimenopause period. And, the symptoms of anxiety are not always linked to depression. It is normal to feel much anxious or even depressed whenever pre menopause begins.

Menopause and Anxiety- The Connection

Some of the women can feel troubled, irritated, or sad during this phase, because of the many changes, the body goes through. These changes may include loss of fertility which is the inevitably the main one. In addition, women may undergo a significant life change during their menopause period.

The aforementioned reasons may promote anxiety to a great extent. Further, various hormonal changes in the body can also drive anxiety. Changes in the levels of various hormones such as estrogen and progesterone can have a major impact on the anxiety during the menopause.

However, these things do go away as and when the pre menopause conditions end. After that, women enter their postmenopausal period where the hormones become much more balanced.

Treatment for Menopause :

Menopause is inevitably natural for women. It is a natural occurring that women have to undergo. If the situation deteriorates or cause an unbearable problem, one can opt for hormone replacement therapy (HRT). However, some women are not suitable for HRT. Therefore, doctor’s consultation is very important before undertaking any treatment or therapy.s

In cases, if a woman suffers badly during her perimenopause phase, and a high level of anxiety is demoralizing her everyday life, she can speak to the doctor to get a prescribed medication for the same. Your doctor may prescribe some antidepressants to help you deal with stress.
