The urinary system is complex and includes various organs that are involved in the removal of the wastes from the body. The kidneys are the main organs of the urinary system which is also known as the excretory system. A number of ailments can happen in the urinary system and cause a number of complications. The most important aspect is early detection and timely treatment. Whenever you feel that there is a change in the urine frequency, color, and the smell, it is best that you consult a urologist at the earliest. Following are few common types of urinary issues that men and women can suffer from.
BPH or Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
It can be defined as an enlarged prostate. It’s an increase in the size of the prostate gland. It is highly common in old men. It isn’t directly linked to prostate cancer
BPH symptoms are a result of the pressure which a larger prostate could put on the urethra. The urethra is the narrow tube which carries the urine from bladder & out of the body.
Men having BPH could experience frequent urge for urination. They also may have a weak stream of urine when they go 7 a feeling as if the bladder isn’t empty even after urinating. The doctor may simply monitor the condition or even prescribe medications like alpha-blockers to treat this. Severe cases could be treated through surgery.
Urinary Incontinence
It can be defined as the loss of bladder control. This leads to unwanted leakage of urine. The condition could be embarrassing and inconvenient but it’s far from being uncommon. The common causes of incontinence are:-
In few cases, changes in lifestyle like controlling intake of fluid could be enough for addressing this problem. If such approaches are ineffective the doctor could suggest surgery for correction of the underlying reasons.
UTIs or Urinary Tract Infections
UTIs result from pathogenic bacteria or viruses which penetrate the urinary tract & lead to infection. They are highly common amongst women, although men could experience it too. As per estimates around 40% females and 12% males would have UTI which leads to noticeable symptoms at some phase of their lives. A burning sensation while urinating is 1 of the symptoms of UTI. Other comprise frequent urge of urinating & feeling as if the bladder isn’t empty even after urinating. Antibiotics could generally clear away most of the UTIs in 5 – 7 days.
Kidney & Ureteral Stones
Stones grow in kidneys when there are crystals within urine & small particles surround & collect on the crystals. Ureteral stones are the ones which move from kidney to ureter. i.e. tubes which carry urine from kidney to bladder.
The stones could block flow of urine & lead to considerable pain. Several individuals end up expelling small stones from their body with no medical assistance but larger stones could lead to blockage which could be problematic.
Medical & surgical procedures are required in some cases for removal of large stones.
