Signs and Symptoms of a Diabetic Patient:

  • Hunger and Fatigue: Glucose is essential for the cells of our body to produce energy. Insulin is required for the entry of glucose into the cells and in Diabetes, due to insulin deficiency and resistance, this process is impaired. This leads to the symptoms of increased appetite and feeling of tiredness in a patient with undiagnosed or poorly controlled Diabetes.
  • Frequent urination and feeling thirsty: Due to increase in blood sugar levels, there is increased glucose excretion in the urine leading to osmotic diuresis with complaints of frequent urination and thereby, increase in thirst. So, any person having these symptoms over a period of time should get his/her blood sugar tested.
  • Weight loss: Due to the inability of glucose to reach the cells, there is state of increased catabolism in the body leading to significant weight loss in a patient with high blood sugars.
  • Blurred vision: High blood glucose levels in your body could make the eye’s lens to swell up. They change shape and lose their ability to focus leading to a blurring of vision.
  • Less healing wounds: There are also other symptoms like fungal infection around fingers, genital itching, and difficulty in healing of wounds and in cases of very high blood sugars, complaints of nausea, vomiting, pain abdomen which could be a medical emergency called diabetic ketoacidosis.

Unawareness about diabetes symptoms and late detection can make diabetes an even tougher prospect to beat. So, if you are having these type of symptoms, get your blood tests for diabetes as advised by your doctor.
