Paras Darbhanga, the first multi super specialty hospital of Darbhanga and Mithilanchal has successfully performed the first cardiac surgery in the area. Before the inception of Paras Darbhanga in the area, the patients requiring specialised cardiac care had to go all the way to Patna for treatment. The 6 hours journey and the distance of 300 kms used to result in fatality. Today the residents of Mithalanchal are empowered with access to affordable, accessible and specialised cardiac care. The cardiac surgery not just established a milestone in medical care in Darbhanga but was also instrumental in saving the life of a 20 yrs old young boy from Muraitha.
The patient, Ashok Pandit, 20 yr old was suffering from persistent respiratory discomfort. He could strain himself and needed regular breaks. On many occasions he used to complain of chest pain. Consultations and tests from various hospitals and doctors highlighted that there was a congenital defect in one of his heart valves. The same required surgery and the expertise of a specialized team of cardiovascular surgeons.
Post recommendations, the family consulted Paras Darbhanga and decided to get their son operated in the hospital. “ It was not just convenient, but also financially more viable. When you have access to specialized, affordable care, why travel to another city and spend extra. It was a conscious decision taken by the family and today we are proud of the same,” shares Ashok’s father.
The milestone surgery was performed by Dr. Amarnath Shaw and his team of specialized CTVS technicians. The team of doctors under the esteemed guidance of Dr. Shaw performed an open heart surgery. According to Dr. Amarnath, Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgery, Paras Hospital, Darbhanga, “ Credit for this surgery goes to the family that believed in us and trusted us. It also goes to Paras Hospital Darbhanga that has ensured that all clinical parameters practiced in reputed tertiary care hospitals are implemented and complied to. The staff, their conduct and the dedication to address the ailments of the patients is exceptional. This milestone is a tribute to the hard work of the entire hospital that has made us not just the preferred healthcare providers for tertiary care in Mithilanchal, but has also helped us emerge as the true partners in health.”
According to Dr. Anand Paderu, Unit Head, Paras Darbhanga, “The inception of the interventional lab and the noninvasive cardiology was just the beginning. With cardiac surgery we will be able to provide comprehensive cardiology care to the common man. We aim at bridging the gap of healthcare in Mithilanchal and ensuring that we provide specialised care at the doorstep of every needy patient. We also hope that this is just the beginning and many feats & milestones follow.”
