A mega free heart disease check-up camp was organised at Paras Global Darbhanga on July 12 in which hundreds of people participated. The camp was organised keeping in view the increase in number of deaths due to heart related disease in Bihar.
People who participated in the camp were investigated for blood sugar and ECG. Heart specialist Dr Jyoti Prakash Karn and surgeon Dr A K Jha were conducting the tests.
Dr Karn on the occasion gave advice on how to prevent oneself from heart disease. He also shared that tobacco and cigarettes were the main cause of heart disease and advised people to shun its use. Dr Karn further said that consuming fast foods was another factor responsible for increase in heart disease as fast food contains salt in much bigger degree which uses to block the veins of heart. Similarly, nicotine found in tobacco also weakens the heart veins, he said adding, “In Bihar, 33% of people above the age of 40 die due to heart related disease. This figure is similar in both cities and villages which make heart related disease the most culpable factor for occurring deaths in the country.”
Dr Karn stressed upon the preventive measures to be taken to lessen the heart disease in the country. “We must get ourselves checked for blood sugar, blood pressure, ECG and cholesterol at regular intervals. We should walk for at least 15 minutes daily and try to lead a stress free life. We should also try to prevent ourselves from air and noise pollution,” he further said.
