A special free health check-up camp was organised at Paras Global Hospital, Darbhanga for the patients suffering from mouth, nose and throat cancer. Apart from detection of cancers of mouth, nose and throat, Audiometry test was also conducted on those having hearing problems along with tests being performed on those having complaints of dizziness.
Speaking on the occasion, ENT specialist Dr Anurag Srivastava at Paras Hospital said that most people who have mouth, nose, or throat cancers use tobacco, drink alcohol, or both. Dr Srivastava highlighted that 15-20% of cancers are those found in mouth, nose and throat.
As these cancers are routinely detected very late as they are generally diagnosed in the last stage of the disease, 50% of the patients lose their lives due to this, Dr Srivastava said.
He advised the people who came to the camp to refrain from using any form of tobacco including cigarette and Gutka and also asked them to create awareness among others for the same. Dr Srivastava also demanded ban on tobacco from the state government as he said this will go long way in containing the use of tobacco which is very prevalent in Bihar.
The people who came to the camp praised Dr Srivastava for passing out this vital information to them.
