9 Ways to Prevent Kidney Stones

Prevention of kidney stones is not complicated but it does take a little determination. Kidney stones are formed when certain chemicals become concentrated large number  in the urine to form crystals. The crystals grow into larger masses stones, which can make their way through the urinary tract. If the stone gets stuck somewhere and blocks the flow of urine, it causes pain. Generally stones are created when calcium combines with one of two substances- oxalate or phosphorous. Stones can also form from uric acid which forms as the body metabolizes protein.

How to prevent Kidney Stones?

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Eat large quantity of  calciumrich foods.
  • Eat less sodium.
  • Eat fewer oxalate rich foods.
  • Eat few  animal protein.
  • Ignour vitamin C supplements.
  • Explore herbal remedies.
  • Milk products.
  • Calcium fortified foods, such as cereal, bread, and juices.
  • Beets on a spinach salad with low-fat cheese.
  • Yogurt with berries.

Other food to watch out for:

  • Avoid stone forming foods – Beets, chocolate, spinach, rhubarb, tea, and most nuts are rich in oxalate, and colas are rich in phosphate, both of which can contribute to kidney stones. Suffering from stones, your doctor may prescribe  you to avoid these foods or to consume them in smaller amounts.
  • Opt for Oxalates – These are good organic compounds found in a number of foods including healthy ones like spinach and sweet potatoes. But oxalates also bind easily to certain minerals, including calcium, which then help form kidney stones.
  • Salt – Sodium is good for you, which you can get basically  through salt. Eating calcium-rich foods like kale and salmon isn’t a bad thing  just when you also eat too much salt. Less  calcium in your diet may lead to kidney stones in certain people.
  • Animal protein – So chicken, eggs, and seafood can build up calcium and uric acid in your body. This is also cause of kidney stones.
