How a mother can explain a daughter about sexual health?

In Indian society, parents are usually very hesitant when it comes to opening up about the relationship between a husband and wife or a man and woman. Since children perceive and observe every activity of parents, they are usually advised to maintain distance at home and in public so that children remain unaware about the bond shared by parents. However, breaking this taboo is the need of the hour in our society.

For many raising a teenager is the most intimidating chapter of parenthood. Discipline becomes increasingly difficult and may feel impossible to maintain. It’s tough to know when to set rules and when to give freedom, when to bend and when to stand firm, when to intervene and when to let live. kids are exposed to heavy  information about sex and relationships on TV and the Internet that by the time they approach puberty, they may be familiar with some advanced ideas.

Around the ages of 9-12, many girls are convinced that they “know all about sex” without really understanding anything of it. Hormones start flowing at this age and bodies start changing, raising a lot of questions and emotions. Reassurance is important, talking about menstrual issues, breast building, growth spurt, body hair- is perfectly a normal aspect of Parent – Girl bond. By twelve, make sure that they know the risks of sexual practices. Try to see the TV shows that your daughter likes to see, the site she sees on her computer and discuss what she has seen. The average age at first sexual intercourse is about 15 years now for teenagers. A mother can discuss about sexual issues with her daughter in a friendly and candid way without being too strict, at the same time being firm about what has to be communicated.
