Symptoms of Chikungunya?

Chikungunya is the mosquito-borne viral disease and similar to dengue. This mosquito which spread in surroundings. These chikungunya mosquitoes take the virus when they feed on an infected person. The virus spreads in the system of the mosquito and reaches its salivary glands. When the mosquito feeds on a person it infects him. The infection lasts for 2 to 12 days.

Signs and Symptoms associated with Chikungunya:

Chikungunya symptoms can often be confused with the symptoms of dengue. It certain symptoms like as debilitating joint pains are unique only to chikungunya. In fact that it is said that dengue plus arthritis is equal to chikungunya as in dengue the muscle pain is very noticeable.

 In India most of the cases have been found from Delhi, however, the number of people exposed to the Chikungunya virus is very high in Southern India. Approx 44% percent of the people in South India have been exposed to the Chikungunya virus. Most of them not show any symptoms when were not diagnosed properly. Chikungunya seems to affect women more than men. It is seen to affect individuals of different age groups however, the most severe form of this disease affects that above person 65 years of age. It can be panic and fatal for them. Children are also easily affected by the severe form of this disease. Chikungunya may prove to be fatal for people with cancer, diabetes, heart disease and thalassemia.

Following are the symptoms of chikungunya:-

  • High fever
  • Severe joint pain
  • A severe headache
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Rash on the skin lake to damaged blood vessels
  • The enlarged painful lymph node in the neck
  • A sore throat
  • Painful abdominal cramps
  • Cold fingers and toes
  • Dizziness
  • Constipation
